Art Work for Sale

•May 17, 2012 • 3 Comments

Had a facebook conversation the other day and apparently people don’t realize that I sell my paintings and artwork. I do. Not only that, but my husband would be incredibly grateful if I got some more of them out of the house.

Let me know if there is something here that you are interested in and we can work something out.

Also if there are other pieces that I have done that you are interested in, let me know. Right now I am still mostly painting for fun, so I am not making commission paintings at this time.

Monday Art Report

After missing class last week because of Hell City – I tromped in today with all of my canvases from Wet Paint and the ones from before I left. Quite the stack all together like that.

and then spread out on the floor:Image

Steve had wanted me to look at them against a white background. I took notes on what I wanted to change on each of them and went off to paint:

Friend Tattoos

•May 12, 2012 • 1 Comment

I think that the best thing about getting to make Friend tattoos for people is getting to watch them together. People who are so comfortable with one another that they know one another’s deepest secrets and never need to worry about it.

Friendships like these last through the years and across the miles.

These are the people who are the true blessings in our lives. What better thing to commemorate with a tattoo? Or two?

Hell City – Wet Paint Project – 2012

•May 8, 2012 • 4 Comments

The last Wet Paint Project that I was able to attend was at Mad Hatter Remains in February of 2011 the link for that one is HERE. Also the last tattoo convention that I tattooed at was Hell City the last time it was in Ohio. Hell City is as far as I know the best convention going in the States. All that being said, I had a pretty good idea what I was getting myself involved in and was super excited to attend.

We left Rochester in the middle of some weird butterfly event – that while feeling magical when we were home turned into the Great Butterfly Massacre once we were on the Highway.  Fortunately it was not a bad Omen of things to come. We arrived at the Hotel on Thursday night and after snacks crashed out for the night.

Friday morning we went out exploring and checked out the North Market which Paul and I somehow missed the last time we were in Columbus. Great food and plenty of options for everyone.

Friday when we headed over to the convention area a few of the artists had already set up.    Wet Paint project   Wet Paint Project

Holly and I picked out our spot and dove right in. Holly owns Always and Forever in Watertown, Mass Holly Azzara

Instead of bringing the paintings with me that I had started in this series (since I feel they needed too much corrections at this point) I just brought blank canvases and started them over again.

Goodbyes after weekends like this are hard. So many great people. It’s hard to say good bye and walk back into the real world day to day grind. Monday morning was much hugging and exchanging contact info. New friend requests on Facebook. New friends to follow on Twitter and Instagram and running around trying to catch everyone we might have missed.

Back on the road for a pretty uneventful trip home. Saw a small trailer fire trailer fire  and stayed well stocked up on Starbuck’s for the ride home: Birds nest in Starbucks logo

Back to reality (or as close to it as I normally reside)

Here is a photo that was taken of the group painting after we left on Sunday

I am exceptionally grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with all of these amazing artists. Hoping to be able to attend future Wet Paint get togethers as well. Thank you to everyone in attendance and everyone I was able to visit with who was working on the Main Tattoo floor.

Much love and hugs,

This isn’t finished. But it’s a fun project, I have shown you progress on it in the past and Sarah is a great client.

Worked on these three paintings out of the series yesterday. There are some things that I am happy with and some things I am definitely not happy with.

As it sits right now, there is a pretty good chance that I am either going to completely revamp these and/or start completely over with a couple of them this weekend. I’ll let you know what happens when I get back.

I left figure drawing class early so I didn’t photograph the drawings that I did last night.

Mermaid, lots of birds and a New Model

The Female Tattoo Artist Group that I am involved in is doing an art exchange project. This time we are exchanging postcards. Every participant will get an original piece of art and a book with scans of all of the other postcards in it. The woman who organizes these is amazing. There is no way that on top of all of my other on-going projects I could scan in 50 pieces of artwork and have them printed. I will sing her praises here but leave out her name as I try to avoid talking about people online without their permission.

So what is the thing to do if you are submitting art to your peers? Well experiment with a new medium that you have never ever tried before. Of course! Well, actually only half true. I have used watercolors lots of times before…. but I have never used liquid watercolor and I have never used permanent watercolors. The colors are more vibrant and I have always wanted to try them… but never wanted to shell out the cash for them.
Fortunately I have wonderfully supportive family and my mom and my sister gifted me with a full set for Christmas. First step. Bust into the pretty color set:

Doc Martins liquid watercolors     While figuring out what to draw for the postcard. I’m unclear as to rather we are supposed to be just making pretty pictures or trying to make them look like something that would normally be on a postcard. I decide to cover my bases and make a postcard from Atlantis even if no one else gets it. (I’m not going to write “Greeting from Atlantis” on the art side, but I might write it on the back.)

Starting with the normal thumbnails and rough sketches progressing into color:

mermaid roughs   mermaid rough   mermaid drawing    mermaid watercolor   mermaid watercolor   mermaid watercolor   mermaid watercolor   mermaid watercolor I still need to cut her out and probably bind it to another piece of cardstock to make it safe to mail…. but I think this side is probably finished (but not signed, which means I’m not completely committed to it be in its final stage). I love how bright these colors are – much better than normal watercolors. Would have been easier if I hadn’t left most of my watercolor brushes in Webster but it was a fun experiment and I would use them again for sure. I especially like that they came with a white – which helps a lot for blending pinks and skin tones.

Monday morning and back to paint class. I built a bracket to hold the paintings up straight while I am working on them. Much of this session was spent trying to make things upright that were “off” from the first go around. Looking at these photos while I was uploading them made me see that another one needs to be corrected more. Perspective is good : )

Much more to come on those. Hoping to have them mostly or all finished by Hell City so that I can start on the other paintings that will be in this series.

Monday night is figure drawing class as always. This Monday we had another brand new model. I forget in our discussion about light and shadows that these brave folks are coming and getting naked for us…. then holding poses for a ridiculously long time. You may think that it is not a big deal – but standing perfectly still for 20-25 minutes in an awkward twisting pose without even moving the position of your head is not that easy. On top of that this model stood for our long pose as well – so he spent the better part of two hours in exactly the same position under hot lights.

So for all of the figure drawing models out there – just wanted to remind you that you are appreciated. Thanks for helping us out – we couldn’t do it without you.
