This one isn’t anywhere near finished… but I don’t think I am going to be able to finish it (he seems to have vanished)

This one has to be the by far most stolen tattoo that I have ever done in my career.

•November 13, 2011 • Leave a CommentThey say that it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. I am going to do neither. I am going to apologize to you in advance.
I am sorry for what I am about to do.
For the last few weeks I have been doing way less tattooing than I would like to be. I have been “under the weather” and not well enough to tattoo. Since I am a relatively simple critter, my self-esteem is tied directly to my productivity. In other words since I haven’t been doing much, I haven’t been feeling like much.
Today I was doing an image search for something and two of my tattoos came up in the top five results for that image. Neither one of them was watermarked or credited to me.
So…. a solution. I will put a bunch of WATERMARKED tattoos of mine online in hopes that the search engines will pick them up instead of the old ones that are not.
I don’t know if it will work, but it is worth a shot and right now I need to be doing something before I lose my mind. So if you are a regular subscriber here, I apologize for the sudden flood of posts. I don’t see me doing it again anytime soon – please be patient and hit delete and we will all move on : )
thanks so much for your support!

•November 12, 2011 • Leave a CommentSo I got all excited this week and thought that I was out of my own way and back to working full time again…. and then, alas I had to cancel my appointment for today.
Just unbelievable frustrated and disappointed (me, not the client… he was really nice about it). Anyhow here is some stuff that I made while I was actually working again.
Wednesday we worked on Frank’s skull for a little bit
Then Thursday I was blessed to spend the day with two really amazing ladies. When I set their drawings out in the morning I was surprised to see how similar they were in shape even though they are such completely different designs
The tree was first and in the interest of modesty I am only going to show you the top portion
Next up was an addition to a piece that I made for Sandy a couple years back. There is more to come on this, so hopefully I will remember to post pictures when we work on it again

Then on Friday I was able to make this first tattoo for a great young guy as a tribute to his Dad.
He sat amazingly well for his first tattoo and I am looking forward to seeing it healed up.
Then I had a really fun project to start today – which turned out to not be in the cards. Hope that you are having a much better weekend than I am. Hopefully tomorrow will be better as we have the November meeting of the AYU Art Group and I am looking forward to it.
Monday morning Painting Class
•November 7, 2011 • Leave a CommentI spent most of the day yesterday taking a Blood Borne Pathogens class. While informative, terribly boring and way too long. So I was unable to spend anytime at all making stuff.
Fortunately there is Paint Class! Yeah!
So last week Steve had told me that he wanted to work with me on skin tones and asked me to leave the painting of the hand there so that he could have a look at it throughout the week. Here are all the paintings which are currently living at his studio:
It occurred to me in the intervening week that it would be better to bring in the portrait painting that I started in Shawn Barber’s class and have him help me with that instead of a hand. So I brought in the self-portrait which I have not touched since the class.
Steve came by and said that he would like to use it for a demonstration later in the class. I was fine with that and set myself to work on another semi-abandoned painting to see what I could do with it.
At that point I was thinking this one might be just about finished. So I set it aside and got out the painting of the seal to work on. Steve came back around and started setting up for the demo and apparently I forgot to take a photo of the seal when I took it off the easel.
Here are some shots of Steve modifying the color and key in my self portrait. I can’t explain to you everything that is going on here (because then I would be able to teach the class). But I tried to grab a few in progress shots.
Because Steve painted right on this one, I won’t sign it…. but hopefully when it is finished I can send it to my mum and she will still be please to receive it (even if I didn’t paint ALL of it).

At this point Steve wanted to leave the piece sit until next week and have me go back into it once this layer has dried.
So I spent the last little bit working on the seal painting. I don’t know how much more I want to do with this. I really like it loose… but it definitely needs some whiskers!
