Oh No! Last Painting Class
Well, at least for a while. I had wanted to take the Spring session as well, but it appears that I have overbooked myself and wouldn’t be able to make it to the majority of the classes.
Fred doesn’t teach in the summer, but I made sure to block the time out for the fall session. I feel like I have learned a lot from Fred and I don’t think I am going to outgrow his input anytime soon.
In light of the experimentation that we did Sunday in Chris’ class I decided to try again with the solvents and additives for the water-soluble oils. Now that I have worked with the “real” oils for a bit, I know what texture and consistency I am looking for.
I learned a lot – didn’t make it as far as I would have liked (I am excited about this one) but I think it marks a new chapter in my painting.
Because I knew that I wanted to experiment with mediums tonight I did a line drawing ahead of time so that I could focus on moving the paint around and not on getting proportions right. Fred did point out that the composition was awkward – but I was actually looking for that. I thought that the whole thing should look uncomfortable and “wrong”. That was what drew me to the reference photo in the first place – the boys arms look totally “off”. I liked it and wanted to build from there.
As always, if I get around to finishing this I will post the pictures of it.
